With extreme gratitude to Dave Hall of Dave's Skilltoys
for all he has done for the sport of yo-yoing and for this site, it was time to
move on. We have transferred the site to a new hosting service and
apologize if anyone tried unsuccessfully to access Dif-Spinners during the
It has been two years since Houdini left us.
These have been two difficult years for his family and
friends, but in a way Ryan is with us still. Literally thousands of you
have visited this website to learn a bit about this sport called yo-yo, and many
from around the world have signed Houdini's guest
book to let us know that you miss him, too. Thanks for your thoughts
and kind words. Through you, Houdini Lives.
p.s. We are grateful to skilltoys.com
for hosting this site, and want to assure you that we will keep this resource
available to the yo-yo community as long as interest continues.
In response to several requests, a transcript of
Houdini's funeral service is available here.
Many thanks to Rev. Timothy Brooks for his moving celebration of a life that
ended much too soon.
Yes, it is true. Ryan Monson, aka Harry Houdini, died
October 4, 2005, at his own hand.
No one knows why a 17 year old boy with such talent,
intelligence, and so many good friends would take such a step, but I know that
he treasured the friendships he made in yo-yoing. His mother and I are grasping now for understanding, but whatever
demons tormented him, we hope and trust that he is safe from their torment at
last and at peace with himself and the world.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and
Off to the wilds of Minnesota tomorrow. I look
forward to seeing you all at MWR! When I get back I am going to start
working on all my yo-yo related projects again, I have so much to do.
First I am going to get those Polish videos up, then get the rest of the
Instructional Videos converted to Mpeg, reshoot some stuff for this site, then
tricks.skilltoys, FAQ project... Just lotsa stuff to do.
Just updated the Freehand Zero Archive again with much better,
less blurry pics of all the packaged Zeros.
Freehand Zero Archive updated. Big thanks to Steve
Brown for the LE pics, and to Alex Willden for the Higby Counterweight set
picture. If I have time tomorrow I will try to work on taking pics of the
rest of the Freehand Zeros that I have, plus retaking the old pics.
I got a surprise email from Steve Brown last night with
attached pics of 13 new limited edition Freehand Zeros that I have not yet seen
posted on any forum or web-site. I am having trouble updating that page,
but as soon as I consult my web-site designer, I should be able to release those
for you all to see, they look fantastic. Oh, and new rant up in the Rant
or be square (wait for the page to load). And here.
I will have free Skilltoys.com
yo-yos, shirts, and stickers at both contests. New rant up later.
I added a Bio page to cut down on some of the email I
get everyday from people wanting to know about me and my yo-yoing. Enjoy I
Word up everyone. Few things, first off check this
out. A friend on another forum (NYYR) made it for me. Very slick,
and very much appreciated. As for other stuff, the long awaited Single A
video I have been hinting at and commenting on is still not done. Every time
I start filming I get an idea for another way I want to take the video, and the
tricks I have been working on lately are more freestyle based then anything
else, and I don't know how they would be received. If I had a back bone I
would just finish filming it, give it a quick and clean edit and let it out, but
I want to make it a little special. Oh and one more thing before I forget,
I will be at Worlds this year for sure. We are staying 5 nights at the
Rosen Plaza, and I just can't wait! Huge, huge, huge thanks to David Hall
for helping make my trip possible. Now everyone go to www.skilltoys.com
and buy a yo-yo.
Really quick update. I just confirmed that I will
be attending the Iowa State Yo-yo contest again this year, as well as Mid-West Regionals
the weekend after that. There is also a great chance that I will be at
Worlds this year, and Nationals again. A quick line up of this summer's
contests that I will be attending incase you need to hit me up for anything.

time with the new girlfriend
I am set and determined to get stuff done this week; I
have been slacking off in a major way, but no more! ;- )
I am going to start editing the clip vid from Mn. States this
weekend. I didn't get a ton of footage like I wish I would have, so it
might be a bit short, but it will be okay. Oh, and if you haven't already,
read Jim's post from yesterday here,
it really makes you think.
You know you are hardcore when you look down at your string and realize it
spackled in blood. I love
The guys on the skilltoys.com board
asked for Willie's old videos, so you can now see them under "Willie's
Clip/Large Videos" in the Videos section. I am ready for Mn. States,
we are driving up there tomorrow. Can't wait to see everyone again.
Grahame got me some more space, so I am going to be able to release the .mpeg
versions of my old vids now.
Word, I am still alive. I
haven't been checking the boards much lately, I am so incredibly busy with
school and stuff. I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone to let
them know I am still alive and kicking. We just made our reservations for
Minnesota States so I am really looking forward to that. Midwest
Thanks to David Hall, I now have Adobe
Premiere and will be re-releasing all the videos in Mpeg format. So for
all of you who want to watch the instructional videos but can't because you are
on a Mac or whatever the case may be, rejoice. The only downside is that
videos will be a bit larger. I will continue to release new videos in .wmv
format for those of you who want that. This weekend I will be filming at
the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, if any local players want to meet up, throw
me an email.
Mr. Skill requested that I host
another video for him. It's in the Videos section under "Hosted
New Rant on smoothness up in the
Rant section of the site.
New video in the Video section under
"Hosted Videos." It's called "The Truth" by Mr. Skill.
Everyone be sure to check out the other web
site I help maintain, tricks.skilltoys.org, tomorrow afternoon/evening. I
am uploading a ton of Instructional Videos. I really hope you guys find
this stuff useful. Also, I have an Instructional Video for this site
coming soon, this one will be great, I promise, it will help sooooo many people
I just uploaded a new vid by Stephen Allison, aka "The
Orb". It's called "Golden Apples," and can be found on the
videos page under "Hosted Vids". Am I using quotes too
much? I need to go to bed. No more updating tonight. Oh, and
happy new year everyone.
I updated the Freehand Zero Archive with pictures. I don't have pics
of them all yet but I should have that done soon.
So I finally got around to revamping
the site. Enjoy.
